Ben Rutan, Youth for Elijah
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience Elijah one of the most popular choral works and perhaps second only to Handel’s Messiah. An outstanding cast of soloists, performed in the stunning concert hall at St. Mark’s school make this an event not to be missed.
This romantic work is considered one of the greatest of Mendelssohn's works. The work features the dramatic story of the prophet Elijah from the Old Testament of the Bible, told in harmonies both alluring and lurid. Mendelssohn uses these Biblical episodes, doubtless well fitted to the taste of Mendelssohn's time, with a Victorian sentimentality detectable in places.
